Oahu - Sunday January 26

Norm woke me up early this morning to say he had to move to the living room couch that makes into a bed.  Turns out that I was talking and running in my sleep - I thought I was sleeping like a baby - but turns out I was a bit too wild for two of us in the queen size bed.  So...we made up the living room bed and we both fell asleep again.  I know I was having good dreams...wish I could remember them - Ha

I woke up early and took some photos of the sunrise from our lanai then went back to sleep again.  The view was beautiful.

When we woke up again, it was raining outside.  It was balmy and really pretty.  When it cleared, we took a walk out on the beach.  We're on the 4th floor of this 9 floor highrise.

We took some photos of the apartment.  Lots of little things that make it hawaiian.  Cute decor.

We took a drive to the northern point of Oahu and stopped at the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Then we found a unique McDonalds next door.  It definately looks like it needs attention but the design is different than any we've seen - real island decor.  We were lucky to be there on a Sunday when the Polynesian Center is closed because we bet its usually packed.

Of course....we had to have a burger and fries.  This is a waterfall inside a big tiki room.  When it was new it was probably beautiful.

Norm spotted a bead store for me so we had to stop.  Have to say they weren't that "unusual" but the shop was cute:

The wood carver next door was pretty good:

We continued to the northern tip of the coast - Turtle Bay Resort.  Expensive and real pretty.

Great view from the lobby:

Real pretty waterfall in the lobby:

A poster for a surfing competition in the lobby:

They had surfboard displays in the lobby:

Martin had a whole display of ukes in their gift shop.  Had to take photos.

We sat for awhile watching the waves - they were really rough aand exciting:

Nice pool and bar on the beach:

We saw a monk seal sunning himself on the beach.  They are ony found in Hawaii and are on the Federal endangered species list:

On the way back to the apartment, we stopped at the grocery store that Heidi had recommended (called Tamura's) as having good prices.  There is a Longs next to it with groceries too and they had some better sales.  There is also a Dominoes Pizza next door.  We should be set for our time here.

There is also a Subway almost across the street from the apartment - couldn't be closer.  We bought sandwiches for dinner and settled in to watch The Grammys.

  1. It looks like you have a beautiful view from your condo. The inside looks a lot better in the daylight too. I thought the bed looked a bit small so glad you have a sofa bed too. I hope you go back to the Polynesian Cult Ctr when it is a nice day (and open). Seeing the various cultures and shows in action makes the visit really interesting. Oh, there are monk seals inMonterey too. I haven't seen them in Maui.
