Fort Bragg & Mendocino - Sept 7

Slept in today then spend a couple of hours lounging at Starbucks until the ocean overcast began to lift.  The Starbucks here has a lot of comfy lounge  seating...Gold River should have seating this nice.    We updated the blog and checked emails then headed to Mendocino - just a few miles down the road.   By the time we got to Mendocino, we had blue sky and it was warm.

Love walking around this quaint town - lots of fun shops:

We saw some metal sculptures similar to the cat we purchased in Washington, but they weren't as nice.  This artist is from Texas and they were cute but didn't have quite the extras.

Thought this was clever:

I always love bears...

We talked a bit with the owner.  He's a chocolatier from Belgium.  He's been in this location a little over a year and plans to move his shop to Fort Bragg.  He complained at length about his current landlord's restrictions.  He had a really interesting shop - part chocolate shop (we bought a bottle of port chocolate sauce)...and the other half of the shop had auto-related posters, photos, toys, shirts, car parts, and more which, of course, interested Norm.

Bought some malt balls here...Mendocino has 3 different chocolate stores in town.

Norm patiently waited while I walked in and out of the shops:

Love this bench with tiles all over it...even had a buddy tiled on the bench so I wasn't lonely:

Here's another artsy bench made of drift wood:

Found a bead shop in town.  Couldn't stay in the shop long because of the strong incense smell.

We like the weathered fence....this one and the following shot are "Art Photos" - frame and number them and get big bucks.  Ah, what a good eye.

Did we run out of shops?

Lots of T-shirts for sale. We didn't buy any though. Norm knows why.

Interesting buildings..

Liked the old windmill:

I'm reading a sign that says if we want to buy any pottery, to leave money or a check in the box:

We're always dreaming of buying a place on the coast in this area:

We stopped at this Sea Glass Museum - pretty strange place...The guy put a lot of time and effort into laying out each and every piece of sea glass along with names of each.

OMG - they had these little shell people....who buys these strange things?

I loved this poster that was at the museum entrance:

Back to Fort Bragg...went to Safeway for Scrimshaw beer and sandwiches then to the hotel for the evening.  It's been a relaxing day.

  1. I feel like I was there with you. My first honeymoon was in Mendocino. I remember loving the quaint buildings and artsy shops too.
