On to Coos Bay - Sept 5

Left hotel after sleeping in - thru breakfast - good night's sleep after a long day yesterday.  Weather is beautiful - sunny and blue!  Got a photo of the hotel as we left at 11:15 am.

Had to take this photo of the restaurant next door!

Took these two photos at the entrance to Ocean Shores.  Just our luck, a grounds keeper was working in front.

We got caught behind some slowpokes who drove 10 miles BELOW the speed limit and we didn't break free to get on 101-south until Noon.  No starbucks in sight until Astoria...However, beautiful day by the water.

We turned on to the bridge....all was well...until we saw the workmen with flags on the bridge - this was our first delay of the day.  Our low fuel light came on while we were waiting in line:

Found Subway & Starbucks...and a gas station in Warrington, near Astoria.
Filled up at Fred Meyer gas station - 34.9 mpg - drove 317.2 miles, 9.105 gal @ $3.86/gal.

We saw these Tsunami signs every few miles - The signs either said we were leaving or entering the hazard zone...and other signs stated that we were driving on an evacuation route. Plus there are earthquake faults hereabouts. Lovely.

Stopped in Newport at TB's Salmon Feed - enjoyed BBQ'd salmon - best we've ever had.  Back on the road again toward Coos Bay at 6:20pm. GPS says ETA in Coos Bay is 8:29 pm.

Thought this was a cute sign:

Another cute sign:

We passed the Tilamook Air Museum:

While the photos are poor, we passed two Bead stores along the way...

We thought about staying in Newport at one time but chose Coos Bay...  The extra time today wiill lesson it a bit tomorrow...

We were stuck behind a trailer with an oversized load.  He kept driving in the middle of both lanes...Argh!
It was getting chilly in late afternoon and we followed this couple for awhile driving this hot rod dune buggy without a windshield - brrrr!

We drove over a few bridges with interesting art-deco  columns:

Loved the ocean views with a light sea mist in the air.

We were only 4.5 miles away from our hotel when we came to a stop.  A car was on fire with the fire truck and ambulance blocking the road. Will troubles never end?

We got to the hotel at 8:35pm and hurried right to the pool/spa...We loved the paintings on the wall.  The spa was about 103 - wonderfully hot - and the pool was just up my alley...Norm was surprised that I was able to walk right in to it.  Real refreshing but not cold.

Nice large spa -

Loved this bench just outside the reception area of the hotel:
