The Traveling 3some - Day 5 - from Denver, Colorado to Dodge City, Kansas

October 11 - 393 miles - 38.9mpg

The dark red line is us as we putter on our way. Even the longest journey begins with a.......

After a relaxing free full succulent breakfast, we hit the road at 10am for Dodge City.  Weather is a balmy 58 degrees and we're in T-shirts.  We hope to bring these blue skies with us to the east coast!

The "see ya later" sign below could have added "and prepare to set your cruise control to 80 mph as you traverse endless miles over flat, flat land while fighting off highway hypnosis...turn around quickly, you fools!"

The Kansas Travel Center, just over the border, is beautiful.  Wow - all states should take notice!

Cricket says, "Are those big dogs?" In the state logo.

Cricket's favorite place - and it's now 70 warm degrees.

"Ozfest" is a celebration in October throughout Kansas of all things related to the Wizard of Oz - and we brought our own Toto!

After a 6 hour drive, we arrived at our hotel in Dodge City at 5:15pm.  We quickly unloaded and headed to old town and Boot Hill.  We were surprised at the weather that felt like Florida - 83 degrees.

A rough and tumble burial site becomes pleasantly Disney-fied.

What the living entering under this portal see as they look up....

Every day as the sun sets, the undead zombie flesh munchers staggering out of Boot Hill look up and see this. Can't keep a good cowpoke down.

Norm ready to take the train for a spin. Dodge City's history is inextricably linked to both the old Sante Fe Trail and later the Sante Fe Railroad. A boomtown, no holds barred.

Frozen in time, Wyatt Earp plays a mean game of poker. It's mean because his right hand is, in fact, reaching for his holstered gun. This doesn't seem to faze the two oblivious dude ranch types horning in on the action. Wyatt and Bat Masterson both had a hand in trying to "clean up Dodge City".

Pure, unadulterated gold. Marriott, Holiday Inn and La Quinta, take back your bland signs!
