We drove through Prague on the way to Vienna. Access with a car to sites we might have wanted to see is tricky, or impossible due to those malevolent electronic cylinders in the middle of streets blocking access. We've had it with those babies. But we did drive through the city as our own, personal "hop on/hop off" transportation - except that we did not hop off. With all the luggage in the car and warnings about car break-in issues in Prague, leaving the Peugeot sitting even in a guarded lot didn't appeal to us. So we soaked up some city ambience, but foot exploration of the city will have to wait for a return visit. We're sure it's not going anywhere after all this time.
There was a discussion of priorities between Pilot and Navigator during the Prague adventure. While Navigator was busy snapping photos, Pilot was asking for directions and not getting the quick response desired. Snap, Snap, Snap - enough said.
Our arrival in Vienna was delayed by a couple of hours by two motorway accidents. The first one had cars stopped so long that people got out of them to stretch. A woman two cars behind us let her dog out to do its necessary, at which Pam trotted back to vigorously pet the pup and make a new BFF of its owner. All in a matter of minutes. Norm just sat behind the wheel contemplatively sucking on a sugar free candy.
When we finally broke out, the motorway was coated with what seems to have been the residue of a huge load of some whitish-brown powder. Maybe sugar, maybe hazmat stuff. We kept the windows closed just in case.
The other accident occurred in a motorway construction zone which squeezes all traffic into two narrow lanes bordered on one side by metal barricades and the other a concrete barrier. As we finally drove free a semi and Porsche Boxter were at the edge of the road. The Boxter's side looked the worse for wear, suggesting that it was the loser in a squeeze play between it and the truck.
Czech Republic had construction everywhere along our route. We exhaled as we passed into Austria. Finally, no construction (at least on our road).
Anyway, hotel arrival and check in at 8 pm went butter smooth. The car is put away, so for the next two days let the walking begin.
