Thursday - Feb 6

Thursday - Feb 6

Today we left our apartment about 11am and headed to Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial.

We did some "window shopping" in the gift shop:

Then headed through the various museum buildings and shoreline exhibits:

Here are some photos that show how it was "before" the attack:

We had tried to get a ticket to visit The Arizona Memorial on-line but were told it was booked until late February.  When we arrived today we were told that we could be in the wait line and sure enough, we waited about 45 minutes and got in.  We watched a movie about the events that led up to the attack then boarded a ferry that took us to the Memorial.  It was all quite moving and proves once again that much of it came down to human error.

This oil below the memorial is still seeping from the sunken ship:

Part of the remains of the sunken USS Arizona battleship:

We left Pearl Harbor close to 4pm and got stuck in rush hour traffic jams - plus there was a car fire one way and another broken down car the other.  So much for paradise!

We got off the freeway and spent some time at Starbucks.  When we left, it was clear sailing back to the apartment.
